My Journel

This week we got a journal from our lovely teacher Mrs Drummond.
After every lunch at silent reading we write what we are thankful for in our journal and we can also draw a picture according to what you are thankful for.

Speech Finales

  On Wednesday it was the speech finals. There were three people presenting in each year group. In our class we picked Souen and Liam TP. Souen's speech was about "how toilets can change your life" and Liam's was about "Why the English language is stupid". Out of the year six's Mia G won and she is going to the Eden Albert speech finals against other schools. I hope I can get in next year!     

Room Five Assembly

On Friday Room Five had an assembly. We did a play about stereotypes. In the play my part was I speak two languages and I had to say it in Chinese 我会说两种语言 Wǒ huì shuō liǎng zhǒng yǔyán. I was also part of the soccer part. We also did a dance called individual reality.   

Marae Trip

The other day we had a trip to the Marae. It was really fun! They taught us a few songs. At eleven o'clock we all went to the wharekai the eating place. We had scones, biscuits and Milo. Also the school councils did the hoki with the Marae members. The last part of the trip was the year 5 & 6 had to do the kapa haka. While we were doing it my shoe was half on. It was a really fun trip!     

Pacific Ocean Poster

Term 3 Week 3. This week we all researched on a ocean. There was Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and Southern Ocean. I did Pacific Ocean because it sounded like it was very interesting. The deepest point of the ocean is 432,830, The animals that live in the pacific ocean is sea otters, Dugongs, Killer whales, manta rays and Humpback whales. The size of the Pacific ocean is 62.46 million miles and is the largest ocean. This was a really fun project and I can't wait to do it again.   

Pumanuwa

This term on every Monday we have something called Pūmanawa. Pūmanawa is when there are different activity like cartooning, digital technology, yoga and kitchen science. My first choice is digital technology, my second was cartooning and my third was kitchen science. What we have done so far in digital tech is brickfilm. Brickfilm is when you get Lego and keep on moving it once then take a photo. You just keep on doing that over and over again until you've finished. A really good tip is that you have to keep the camera really really still. I picked technology because I want to learn more about computers.

           

                                                                                                                                                                                        

Egg Sitting

The other day our class did egg sitting. We had look after it for a whole week it's just like looking after a baby. The rule was we weren't allowed to leave our egg at home by itself. We had to make a home for our egg. my egg's home had two beds in it a pillow and lot's of paper towels. It was really fun. 

Science With Celery

The other day we were at Room 8 for a whole day. While we were there they did this experiment they got a jar and filled it up with water. Then they got the celery and cut it up into piece's. After they added the dye in the water and mixed it together. Now we put in the celery and then we had to want for about two hours. It was really fun.

Drama

In drama we learnt three games that was really fun. The first game was we got our cheers and pick a group. that group has to pick a fruit name we were bananas. When ever the person calls out our group name we had to run to one of our groups cheer and when the person says fruit salad we all had to find another cheer to sit in.

Maori Art

The other day we did Maori art that had to be like the famous artist Peter Gossage's art. I did Maui. First we had to look up the picture that we wanted to then after we finish drawing it we used pastel to colour it in. Then we had to dye it it I am really proud of myself I had lots of fun.

Country Poster

In term 2 we had to research on a country. I did Canada. I will now tell you some facts about Canada. In 1965 Canada got its own flag 1755-1764 Expulsion of the acadian 1815 18 June to 18 February war of 18/2 and Pontiac's war 1763. Their leader is Justin Trudeau language French/English. I really enjoyed it. 

Book Week

Today we had Book Week. I was supposed to be a myself from the yearbook but the school didn't allow it so my teacher gave me this poo emoji costume. When it was my turn to say what I was I said I was a poo from the toilet and everyone burst out laughing. After morning tea we went to go to do the literacy treasure hunt. I really enjoyed it. It was really fun. 

We also met Stu Duval he showed how to do some drawing out of numbers and letters. The next day Jake Russel came and told us the story about how he cut his hand with a hunting knife. He also showed us his books. I am really excited for next years Book Week.

Science Experiment

The other day Room 5 did a big experiment about filtering water. There was lots of stuff like bark, paper towels, cotton balls, sand and water with cooking oil and lots of pieces of paper. At the end after we tested all the props we mixed them together. Our teacher choose the three cleanest but we weren't one of them. It was a really cool experiment.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

Science In a Van

This week Connolly went to watch Science in a Van - well it was in a hall. They did lots of experiments and they were really funny. It was really cool. We also learnt about the periodic table which I didn't know anything about. They had lots of different props like liquid nitrogen. I really enjoyed it and learnt lots of new stuff.      

Anzac reef

In the second week of term two week two we all choose a picture and we have to colour it in. I choose the reef with lest we forget in the middle it with all about Anzac. There was still lots of other choices but half the class choose this reef. At the end I was really impressed about my reef.

Animal research

For reading we all made a poster. First we had to pick a animal to research. Then we had to research its habitat, babies, and diet. Mine was bush babies. We went on various sites to look at facts. Then we wrote down the facts on a poster and it was really fun.  

Reading play ft. the otters!

A few weeks ago my reading group had a play it was called The bus monitor. We  had least people so we had  to ask two more people to join. I was the bus monitor. At first we introduced our self's in the story there was a robot bus driver, and two kids. It was really fun! I can't wait for another play.

Growth mind set

In room 5 we all made mantras about being positive. It was really fun. The one that is under this is the one that I made. I chose this one because it was really inspiring to me and really cool.

Shrove Tuesday

On Shrove Tuesday we went to room one to make pancakes first we had to make the pancake mixture we used a sieve to get the lumps out of the flour then we added the milk and steered it it looks really mushy but when we put in more milk. Then we had to go and start our blogs and wait for the pancakes. When we were on the way out to leave we get another piece it was fun!

A few weeks ago we learnt about sun smart and we had to find a group and do a poster about sun smart and the picture is the one that we did we had slip,slope,wrap,and slide and we have picture that represent the word and a sun I am really looking forward for more sun smart.

A few weeks ago room 5 all made their own puzzle piece and we decorated our puzzle with stuff that we like. after we had finished decorating our puzzle we stuck it on the window to show our parents/caregivers!!! I wonder what else we will be doing next time!

Swimming sports 🏊

                                             
On Wednesday we had the Connolly swimming sport. They were at the west wave pools. I entered the twenty five mitre freestyle fifty mitre freestyle twenty five mitre breaststroke and twenty five mitre backstroke. At first I was really nervous but when I got in the water I got really exited. Then I actually got first place! Then it was time to do fifty mitre freestyle I was so scared. Then we started I went really fast on the other end I tumble turned and swam back. When I got to the other end the others were behide me and I got first. It was time to do the twenty five mitre backstroke my friend said that he was really good at backstroke and I was like oh no. When I got in we started I actually was second for a few seconds but I went into try-hard mode and I got first. Now it was breaststroke but I wasn't nervous I don't know why. At the end of the non competitive we had the relays our house got second place and that was the end. 

Second week of school

This week in room 5 we learnt about Prodigy, Epic and Freckle. Prodigy is a maths game that you can play on you can battle aliens and earn coins and then buy cloths and head gear. Epic is a website that you can read and after you read you can achieve points and get new profile pictures. Last Freckle, Freckle is a website tat you can read a book and then you answer questions I am really excited for this year 2019.
